The Bachelorette's Emily Maynard Enters Conflict with In-Laws

Emily Maynard is America’s sweetheart on this year’s the Bachelorette. However, while things may seem rosy and romantic on the show, off-camera the eligible young lady has run into some trouble. Emily has one daughter, who has frequently been filmed on the show at soccer practice or interacting with her mother. Ricki is a shy child and her grandparents are concerned that the show may be too much media attention for her. They are no longer speaking to Emily because of her choice to feature their granddaughter on the show. In fact, sources say that the grandparents demanded that Emily refuse ABC Network when they approached her with the proposition of being the Bachelorette. When she decided to do the show, her in-laws were furious.
In this case, the grandparents believe that they have a duty to raise their granddaughter. Because of Emily’s busy celebrity lifestyle, Grandma and Grandpa often step in to give little Ricki a helping hand. Unfortunately for them, grandparents don’t have a lot of pull in the realm of parenting unless they have legal guardianship over the children in question. Despite their demands that Ricki be left out of the spotlight, the grandparents are not able to order anything. They are not responsible for Ricki’s parenting, and therefore their decisions, however opinionated, can be ignored.
If Emily desired, there is a possibility that she could obtain a restraining order against her livid in-laws. The decision for the restraining order would be upheld if it was in Ricki’s best interests. If you are a grandparent and are concerned about your grandchild and the way that he or she is being parented, then you need to contact a family law attorney. Your dispute could become a legal battle for
visitation and guardianship if things get difficult.
