Florida Parents Experience Lag in Child Support Payments
Tens of thousands of parents in Florida were burdened last month when a state agency failed to mail out regular payments. This delay affected custodial parents that were supposed to receive child support payments to carry them through the month of January. According to the Florida Department of Revenue, over 20,000 parents were not mailed their regular child support checks. This money can be vital to taking care of regular expenses such as grocery bills, education expenses, and medical bills.
The department has already issued a public apology and has been working to fix the glitch. A problem with a system upgrade is being blamed for the costly delay. Custodial parents in Florida receive regular child custody paychecks from the Child Support Enforcement System. This agency was set up in 2007 to make the process of collecting and paying out child support easier for everyone involved. Parents that owe money pay the state and the funds are then transferred over to appropriate parties. Are you finding it difficult to get child support payments on-time?
