Woman In Military Face Divorce More Often Than Male Counterparts
In addition to dealing with injuries, separations and mental health issues, women in the military face an extra burden: their marriages are more than twice as likely to end up in divorce.
When compared to their male counterparts women are twice as likely to get a divorce, while enlisted females are three times as likely to get one. Their divorce rates also surpass those of women who are not in the military, which is surprising when compared to military men who enjoy lower divorce rates than their non-military counterparts.
According to a report released recently by the Pentagon 7.8 percent of military women got a divorce while just 3 percent of military men filed for one. The numbers were even worse for enlisted women of whom 9 percent filed for divorce. This not only affects the married couples but their children as well: the military has more single moms then single dads at the moment. Of these women nearly 30,000 are currently deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq.
