War Continues to Impact Military Divorce Rate
Although the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were started several years ago they continue to impact American life domestically and internationally in a variety of ways.
According to the Associated Press 7.8 percent of women in the military got a divorce last year while 9 percent of enlisted women sought a divorce. When compared to just 3 percent of men in the same situation the difference is dramatic.
Since the wars began there have been 1,389 deaths of American military service members in Afghanistan and 4,442 in Iraq. These numbers were collected by the US Defense Department and are updated weekly. However, service members stationed abroad received the good news that 100,000 US troops in Afghanistan are on track to begin withdrawing in July. Yet Afghan police forces are not scheduled to assume the lead security role until 2014.
