Some in Florida Want Alimony Reform
States across the nation are working to reform old alimony laws. Recently, several activists in Florida have banded together to petition the state's lawmakers to eliminate antiquated laws that are doing more harm than good.
According to the group, a family law bill that is going before the House could change their lives significantly. Most of these people are currently paying lifetime alimony that has distressed them financially. According to reports, many of these individuals have been forced to pay alimony even though they are retired and do not receive a full income.
Several members of the group went before the House this month to talk about their current hardships. Among them was a man with throat cancer paying out 80 percent of his income; a man that pays a similar amount to a woman with a full-time job and another man who is still paying alimony to a former wife that is living with another man.
