Military Divorce Rate is Increasing
Fighting for our country is stressful enough; add on the heartache of a broken marriage and you have an increasing military divorce rate.
According to a recent study released, military divorces are on the rise. Over the last year, divorces in the Army increased 3.6 percent. While this may seem like a small figure, it amounts to 27,312 divorces over the past twelve months. This includes members of the Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force. The divorce rate for reservists also showed a slight increase from 2.7% to 2.8%.
Interestingly enough, enrolled women showed a higher divorce rate than their male counterparts. Last year, 7.7% of enrolled women filed for divorced; just 3% of men did during the same period. A different study showed that of soldiers currently fighting in Iraq, a whopping 22% were contemplating filing for divorce when they returned to the United States.
