New Paternity Test Announced
While many women opt to test their fetuses for genetic diseases, women may also have the option of determining the paternity of their children before birth.
The new test, released by a company out of Fairfield, Ohio, is available for the price of $1,625. However, the hefty price tag is considered a small price to pay for having positive proof of paternity early on.
Researchers say that the test is quite new and is not entirely risk-free. In fact, it is possible, although the chances are small, of inducing a miscarriage while performing the test. The next step in the process is to submit experiments to a peer-reviewed journal. The test will then need to be certified by the American Association of Blood Banks.
One of the major problems that had to be resolved before the determining the success of this test was whether the researcher could differentiate between the blood of the mother and the fetus. By using a variety of algorithms, researchers determined that they could separate the blood to determine the DNA of the fetus.
