Child Custody Dispute Results in Drive-by Shooting
A child custody battle turned seriously nasty when it involved a drive-by shooting that was intended to kill the mother of the young child involved.
Officers in the one district were called when neighbors heard gunfire. When they arrived on the scene, they spoke with the mother of the child, the ex-girlfriend of one of the alleged shooters. She told officers about the paternity battle she has been fighting with her ex-boyfriend, prompting suspicion to be focused on the 27-year-old male.
The young man actually turned himself in for questioning, but was soon released due to a lack of evidence against him. However, additional evidence was brought to the investigating officer's attention and proved to be enough to bring the young man back into custody. Along with him, his 27-year-old girlfriend was also named as an accomplice in the near-fatal drive-by shooting. Rather than hitting the mother, the couple shot a 10-month-old boy who is expected to survive his injuries.
