He attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, but left to enlist in the U.S. Army in 1965. He served for twelve years from 1965 to 1977 in a wide variety of specialties and assignments. He was awarded a Top Secret/Crypto Access security clearance and served with various intelligence units in the Far East and with the National Security Agency, before being selected for duty with the Defense Attache Office in 1969.

Mr. Oberdier was assigned to the American Embassy in New Delhi, India from 1969 to 1971. Following a one year stint at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California studying Turkish, he was assigned to the American Embassy in Ankara, Turkey from 1973 to 1975. His final assignment was as a Platoon Sergeant with the 2nd Armored Division at Ft. Hood, Texas. During his service he rose from Private to Sergeant First Class and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal; and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Following his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army, Mr. Oberdier returned to college. He graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor College in Belton, Texas in 1978 and immediately began Law School at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.

During Law School, he worked two jobs and was noted for his performances in litigation-related competitions. He was honored as the Regional Winner of the Client Counseling Competition and represented the University of Texas and the Southwest Region at the National Competition in 1979.

Upon graduation from Law School in 1980, Mr. Oberdier accepted a position as an Associate Attorney with Mahoney, Hadlow & Adams in Jacksonville, Florida. He also worked as a trial attorney with Coker, Myers & Schickel, P.A., before joining his present Firm in January of 1987.

He has successfully tried numerous cases for both Plaintiffs and Defendants, including cases involving Product Safety, Railroad Crossing Accidents, Automobile Accidents, Commercial Disputes and Work Related Accidents and served as President of the Jacksonville Association of Defense Counsel in 1993.

Mr. Oberdier is a member of Mensa; The Florida Bar, Trial Lawyers Section; the American Bar Association, Litigation Section; the Federal Bar Association; the Jacksonville Bar Association; the Florida Defense Lawyers Association; and the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel.

In addition to being awarded Martindale Hubbell's highest rating of AV, Mr. Oberdier is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Florida Bar, Board of Legal Specialization and Education. He was initially Board Certified in 1993 and was recertified in 1998, 2003 and 2008.

Mr. Oberdier was selected by Florida Super Lawyers as one of the preeminent attorneys in the field of Transportation/Maritime for 2006. He was one of only fifty-six lawyers so recognized in his field in the entire State of Florida. Florida Super Lawyers surveyed approximately 44,000 active lawyers and asked them to nominate the best lawyers they have personally observed in action. Those nominees are then evaluated based on peer recognition and professional achievement before submission to a Blue Ribbon Panel Review who makes the final selection.

Mr. Oberdier was also selected by his peers for four consecutive years to be included in the 2007 - 2010 editions of The Best Lawyers in America in the specialty of Railroad Law. Inclusion in Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive and rigorous peer-review survey that has been developed and refined for nearly 25 years. Because no fee or purchase is required to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor.
